Otters slug way to third win in a row

Matt DeJesus hits a triple and a homer in 10-8 victory

SURPRISE, Ariz. --- #Matt DeJesus# hit a triple and homer as part of a 15-hit attack by Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday as the Otters defeated Grand Canyon University 10-8 to win their third game in a row.

The Otters (12-34) scored five runs in the first inning to give starter #Patrick McClain# (1-4) the run support he needed to pick up his first victory of the season. McClain, who gave up 11 hits and seven runs, pitched into the seventh inning before being replaced by #Michael Trump#. Trump allowed just one run more in the final 2 2/3 innings.

Several CSUMB players had multiple hits. #Shea Davis# went 3-6 with a run, #Jayson Furia# was 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs, #Steve Mays# hit a homerun and finished 2-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs and #Cody Guarnera# was 2-4.

It was the third victory in a row for the Otters, which ties their longest winning streak of the season. Next up for the Otters is a trip to Klamath Falls, Ore. to play Western Oregon University. The teams meet Friday for one game, Saturday for two and Sunday for one more.
