Chico hands CSUMB a lopsided sweep; Otters lose 17-7, 8-1 to Wildcats

CHICO --- Cal State Monterey Bay's baseball team continued to struggle on Friday, losing to Chico 17-7 and 8-1 in a doubleheader on the road.

Chico started the day with a seven-run first inning off of CSUMB starter #Addis O'Connor# (5.2IP 10H 15R 10ER 3BB 1K). The Wildcats scored six more in the second to seal the victory early. Big days by #Thomas Incaviglia# (3-5, 2R, RBI) and #Jeff Bernacil# (2-5, 2R, RBI) helped CSUMB make the score closer.

O'Connor is now 1-1 with the loss. #Justin Aguilera# (1-2) took the loss in the second game, pitching five innings and giving up eight runs on seven hits. #Matt Dejesus# hit a solo home run, his second of the season, for the Otters' lone score. Chico's starter Andrew Pluta (5-2) picked up his third-straight, complete-game victory.

The two teams play again Saturday at noon to conclude the four-game series. CSUMB is now 7-21 overall and 5-14 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Chico is 20-7 and 9-5.
