Currently in seventh place, the Cal State Monterey Bay men will be fighting for playoff positioning this weekend with a game against fifth-place CSU Dominguez Hills on Friday and eighth-place CSU Los Angeles on Saturday.
Both games are on the road. Tip-off will occur after the women's games, about 7:30 p.m. The women play the same teams with tip off at 5:30 p.m. The men's and women's games will be broadcast through the Internet at otterathletics.com. The men's game will also be broadcast on local radio station KRXA 540 AM.
CSU Dominguez Hills is tied for sixth with Cal Poly Pomona with a record of 9-7 and Pomona faces CSU San Bernardino (12-4) and UC San Diego (11-5) this week. Two victories by the Otters on Friday and Saturday could launch them into sole possession of fifth or even a tie with San Francisco State (10-6) for fourth. Eight teams will make the postseason; the top four teams in the conference will host a first-round playoff game. Just four games remain in the regular season.
CSU Los Angeles (7-9) will be battling hard to keep its postseason slot. LA is two games ahead of ninth-place Sonoma State (5-11). The Otters lost close games at home to both Dominguez Hills and Los Angeles. On Jan. 19, CSUMB fell to CSUDH 72-76. Against CSULA the previous night, the Otters lost in triple overtime 118-122.
The Otters will still be missing the conference's top rebounder and the team's third-leading scorer, #Joe Mitchell# (14 points, 10.1 rebounds per game.) Mitchell has been out with a dislocated knee, but is expected back before the end of the season.
The women want to break a losing streak that started on Dec. 18 with a 72-87 loss to Western Washington. The Otters (2-21, 1-15) played CSULA and CSUDH on Jan. 18 and 19, losing to CSULA (5-11 in the CCAA) 59-61 and Dominguez Hills (6-10) 55-71. #Dana Andrews# scored 28 points against CSULA and it will probably take another big night from Andrews if the Otters are to win this time.
The Otters will wrap up the regular season with home games against San Francisco State on Feb. 27 and UC San Diego on Feb. 28. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m. after the women's game, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
