SEASIDE --- Cal State Monterey Bay split its doubleheader with visiting St. Martin's University on Saturday at CSUMB, winning the first game 9-1 and dropping the second 8-3.

Addis O'Connor threw seven innings of shutout ball, giving up just four hits and striking out three, to pick up the win in the first game. CSUMB (1-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after St. Martin's starting pitcher Andrew Speer walked the first three batters. Batting cleanup, Matt Dejesus (2-5) picked up his first of two RBI's on the day with a single and, three batters later, Justin Rios forced in a run when he was hit by a pitch. Rob Van Looy finished the rally with a walk that forced in the third run.

CSUMB would go on to score a run in the second, one in the third,  two in the fifth and one in the sixth and seventh. Matt Ralls finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs and two walks. Greg Fisher threw a scoreless inning in relief and Don Duer gave up a run in his inning of work.

St. Martin's answered quickly, putting the second game out of reach in the fourth inning; Shane Schoeneberg hit a grand slam off starter Justin Aguilera, part of a five-run inning that put St. Martin's ahead 7-0. The Otters scored three and threatened more, leaving nine runners on base. Designated hitter Steve Mays hit two doubles for 2 RBIs.

The two teams will finish their four-game series today at the CSUMB ballpark with the first pitch scheduled at 11 a.m. The baseball complex is located off Second Avenue, behind the Aquatic Center.
