BEAUMONT, Calif. — Freshman
Darcy Lake showed great promise Monday and Tuesday as she led the Cal State Monterey Bay women's golf team in its first tournament of the championship season. The Otters placed 13th out of 16 teams at the Lady Braveheart Challenge at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif.
Despite a shocking quadruple bogey on her finishing hole, a water-lined par 3 into a howling wind, she posted an 82-88 to place 48th out of 101 players. According to CSUMB co-head coach Marianne Towersey. the rest of the team was uncharacteristically daunted by the hilly Oak Valley Golf Course.
“The fast undulating greens baffled our veterans,” she said. “I thought they were prepared, but it's back to the practice green for us.”
The team was in 12th place with a 342 total after the first day in a largely D-I field. The Otters sank to 13th place with a 358 on the second day. The team included
Maren Jaramillo, Tivi Latu,
Lauren Grounds and
Jessica Yee. Freshman
Caroline Clements played as an individual.
Cicilia Chudivan, the Otter's number one player, suffered from a back problem and could not make the trip.
“We have high hopes for the team traveling to the St. Mary's Tournament in San Antonio, TX ( Feb. 25 and 26), said Towersey. “That team should include Chudivan and
Ashley Dickman.”
