SEASIDE, Calif. – In front of a sold out crowd, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team kept its undefeated season alive with an 80-68 victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday at the Otters Sports Center.
In their third consecutive game, the Otters had four players make double-digits. Senior #Steve Monreal# led the team with 15 points and six assists. Junior #Dante Green# nabbed a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Senior #Joe Mitchell# and junior #Keith Wilson# added 14 and 10 points respectively.
The Otters went on a 14-3 run in the first half, capped on a no-look behind-the-back pass by Monreal to Green for a slam dunk to take a 20-9 lead.
An 11-0 run, that begun on a three-pointer by Benny Koochoie, put the Warriors up 33-31.
Monreal's layup with 29 seconds left in the half put the Otters back on top at 36-35.
A Warrior turnover put the ball back into the Otters hands and Monreal drew a foul to go to the line for two, where he connected on both to take a 38-35 Otter lead into the locker room.
Monreal and Wilson connected on baskets to open the first half for a 42-35 lead.
A layup by Green gave the Otters their largest lead of the second half at 78-64.
CSUMB outrebounded the Warriors, 43-29.
"We had a huge weekend," said Otter head coach
Rob Bishop. "The guys played very hard and we came away with two home wins. This puts us right where we want to be and we continue to get better as a team in all phases of the game."
The Otters compete in the San Francisco State Invitational on Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13 in San Francisco. CSUMB opens against Academy of Art University at 3 p.m. The Otters defeated the Urban Knights 73-56 on Nov. 24.
