Mason Ward Named CCAA Offensive Player of the Week

Senior forward produced three goals and an assist while leading CSUMB to a pair of victories

SEASIDE, Calif. — After helping power Cal State Monterey Bay to a pair of victories, senior forward Mason Ward has been named the CCAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Ward enjoyed a seven-point week for the Otters, scoring three goals and adding an assist as CSUMB defeated Jessup, 3-1, and Cal State East Bay, 7-1. He found the back of the net in both contests and had a hand in four of Monterey Bay's 10 goals during the week.
 
The Temecula native opened the week with a goal and an assist in Thursday's victory over Jessup at Cardinale Stadium.
 
Ward scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 28th minute, finishing a feed from Philip Wolny to give Monterey Bay a 2-0 advantage. He then turned provider just one minute into the second half, setting up Kai Martin for the Otters' third goal of the afternoon.
 
Ward was even more dangerous Sunday in CSUMB's 7-1 road rout of Cal State East Bay. He scored his first of the afternoon in the 26th minute to double the Otters' advantage. Ward completed his brace in the 63rd minute, heading home a ball from Wolny to put the finishing touches on Monterey Bay's seven-goal performance.
 
For the week, Ward totaled three goals, one assist and seven points, including the game-winning goal against Jessup.
 
His production helped the Otters go 2-0 while outscoring their opponents 10-2. Monterey Bay improved to 3-0-0 on the season and has scored 14 goals through its first three matches. The seven goals against Cal State East Bay equaled the single-match program record.
 
Ward has scored all three of his goals this season over the past two matches and enters the new week with three goals, one assist and seven points. Ward now ranks first in the CCAA in game-winning goals, third in overall goals, and fourth in points.
 
The honor is the first CCAA Offensive Player of the Week award of Ward's career.
 
CSUMB returns to action Thursday when the Otters travel to Costa Mesa to face Vanguard.
