OAKLAND, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay's high-powered attack showed no signs of slowing down Sunday afternoon. Six different Otters found the back of the net, led by two goals from
Mason Ward, as CSUMB rolled past Cal State East Bay, 7-1, at the Oakland Roots Practice Facility.
The victory keeps Monterey Bay perfect at 3-0-0 to begin the season and gives the Otters 14 goals through their first three matches.
CSUMB wasted almost no time getting started. Defender
Cam Fisk opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, driving a shot through traffic and into the lower right corner for his first goal of the season.
After the early breakthrough, the Otters blew the match open with three goals in less than four minutes midway through the first half.
Ward doubled the advantage in the 26th minute, converting his second goal of the season.
Sylas Sells followed just 1:44 later with his first goal of the campaign to make it 3-0.
Philip Wolny needed less than two more minutes to join the scoring parade. Wolny found the net in the 29th minute for his second goal of the season, giving Monterey Bay a commanding 4-0 advantage.
The Otters weren't finished.
Diego Carbajal added his first goal of the season in the 40th minute to send CSUMB into halftime with a 5-0 lead.
Monterey Bay carried that momentum straight into the second half. Just 1:18 after the restart,
Jacob Burnison scored his first goal as an Otter off an assist from Sells, extending the advantage to 6-0.
Wolny delivered an opportune ball toward the back post in the 63rd minute, where Ward finished for his second goal of the afternoon and third of the season. The goal completed the scoring at 7-1.
The Otters will continue on the road to face Vanguard on Thursday, Sept. 10.
