SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 12-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped the regular season finale to Stanislaus State, 12-2, Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex. The Otters finish the regular season slate with a 36-14 overall record and a 21-11 mark in CCAA play.
CSUMB will now embark into postseason play as the Otters enter the CCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed after claiming their fifth-straight regular season title. The Otters were most recently selected No. 1 in the West Region.
The Otters struck early, scoring single runs in both the second and third innings to establish a 2-0 lead.
Breyon Chavez delivered an RBI single through the right side in the second inning to score
Bodee Goins, while
Noah Zertuche drove in
Xander Sielken with a double down the left field line in the third.
Seven different Otters banged out hits as Zertuche led the squad with a 2-for-4 effort.
However, Stanislaus State put up crooked numbers in the final four innings, including a five-spot in the eighth inning.
The Otters will head to San Bernardino for the CCAA Tournament. As the No. 1 seed, the Otters will open play on Thursday, May 7.
