Otters Selected as Top Seed in the West Region

CSUMB will host San Marcos and Northwest Nazarene

May 10, 2026

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team was selected as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament, the NCAA announced on Sunday evening on its annual selection show. The Otters will host the West Regional Tournament, May 14-16, at the Otter Sports Complex.

The NCAA postseason selection marks the ninth time in program history and the seventh consecutive that CSUMB is headed to the NCAA Tournament.

The Otters earn the No. 1 nod in the region for the second time in four seasons and are the host site for the regional for the third time in four years.

CSUMB (36–16) enters the tournament as the top seed in the West. The Otters will host No. 4 seed Cal State San Marcos (33-17, CCAA) and No. 5 seed Northwest Nazarene (38–16, GNAC) in a double-elimination format.

"We started with a grueling schedule and we played consistent baseball for the majority of the season," CSUMB head coach Walt White said. "Our play throughout the season has created the opportunity to host, but how we play over the next week or two will determine our fate."

The Cougars and Nighthawks will open the tournament on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for Noon. The Otters will play the loser of that game at approximately 3 p.m.

"We look forward to great competition with two strong programs in San Marcos and Northwest Nazarene," Coach White added. "Hosting is an honor and a privilege where we get to represent and highlight CSUMB, Otter Athletics, and everyone associated with CSUMB Baseball."

The Otters are 11–15 all–time in NCAA Tournament competition, including a 3–1 mark at last season's regional, before falling in both games in the Super Regional round.

Point Loma (37-7, PacWest) is the No. 2 seed in the West Region and is joined by CCAA foes Cal Poly Pomona (30-23) and Cal State San Bernardino (27-25).

The winners of the two regionals will meet in a best-of-three Super Regional that will be held on May 22–23.
