Otters Slug Their Way to Series Sweep Over Yotes

CSUMB takes down CSUSB, 13-11, in finale

SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 12 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team powered its way to a series sweep over Cal State San Bernardino, winning 13-11 in the finale on Sunday. The sweep improves the Otters to 32-10 overall and 17-7 in CCAA play.
 
CSUSB established an early advantage, scoring runs in the second and third innings to build a 2-0 lead through the first three frames.
 
The Otters tied the game in the fifth inning when Noah Zertuche launched a two-run home run to right field, evening the score at 2-2. The CSUMB offense accelerated significantly in the sixth inning, when the team scored seven runs to take command of the game. The inning featured multiple hits and walks that produced the offensive surge, with contributions from Melo Rivera, Bobby Benavidez, Jason Del Villar, and others.
 
CSUMB extended its advantage in the seventh inning with four additional runs. Kyle Olimpia delivered a two-run home run to left field, and Xander Sielken followed with a two-run single through the left side to further distance the Otters from the Yotes.
 
Olimpia finished with two hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs, including his home run. Zertuche recorded one hit, two runs scored, and three RBIs with his home run. Rivera contributed two hits and two RBIs, while Del Villar recorded two hits and two RBIs with a double. Benavidez added one hit, two runs scored, and one RBI with a double.
 
Andrew Kotin started for the Otters, pitching six innings while allowing seven hits, six runs, and two walks while striking out five. Jalen Hernandez earned the win in relief, pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowed one hit with no runs scored.
 
CSUMB hits the road for a four-game series as they head to Chico to face the Wildcats. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6 p.m., on Friday, April 24 at Nettleton Stadium.
