Harris Scores Six As Otter Ground Sunbirds

Fast start leads Otters to 13-4 win

Story Links

SEASIDE, Calif. — Senior Alex Harris (Davis Senior HS/Long Beach State) enjoyed her first collegiate hat trick so much she decided to do it twice, scoring six goals to lead Cal State Monterey Bay to a 13–4 win over WWPA rival Fresno Pacific University Tuesday at the Otter Tank.

Harris scored twice in a 5–1 opening burst that gave the Otters quick control of the contest. CSUMB then out-scored Fresno 5–1 in the third period to open a commanding 10–3 lead before coasting home with the victory.

Harris, fittingly, closed the scoreline with a goal in the final minute of regulation.

Freshman Olivia Gutierrez (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) continued her strong debutante campaign with a 5-point game, scoring two goals to go along with three assists. Stella Martin (Clovis West HS) and Kaya Eaton (San Diego/Helix Charter HS) each added a goal and an assist to the Otter scoresheet.

Gutierrez's five points moved her into the CSUMB Top 20 for points in a season with 73, tying Kai Rooney and Morgan Tucker (both in 2019) for 16th on that list. Martin's assist moved her into a tie with Rooney (2019) for ninth place on the Otter single-season assists list with 39.

Sophomore Marissa White (Union City/Mission San Jose HS) earned her ninth victory of the season, moving her up to sixth place on the Otter single-season wins list.

The Otters will continue their season-ending run their the WWPA's western division with a pair of home games Friday and Saturday. They'll host a rematch with Biola University Friday before hosting Concordia University for the first time in the Otter Tank Saturday. First sprint both days is set for 1 p.m.
