SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team used a strong second half to earn its third straight win, downing Cal State San Bernardino, 50-48, Thursday evening at the Kelp Bed.
The victory marked a series sweep over the Yotes and improved the Otters to 11-9 overall and 8-7 in CCAA play.
Jennifer Moreno Ortiz and
Cheyanne Whitfield led the charge with 11 points each. Moreno Ortiz shot 4-of-12 from the field and added five rebounds, while Whitfield went 3-of-8 and pulled down a team-high nine boards.
Whitfield was clutch down the stretch, hitting key free throws as time dwindled in the final quarter.
CSUMB also got strong support from Janelle Peña, who scored eight points and added six rebounds, and
Aliyah Young, who contributed five points.
The Otters went into the half trailing, 24-19, but bounced back by outscoring the Yotes in the second half, 31-24.
CSUMB will close out its homestand against Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday at 1 p.m.
