LOS ANGELES – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team suffered a 76-64 loss in the front end of its Southern California road trip, falling at Cal State LA Thursday evening at the University Gym.
CSUMB's offensive effort was led by
Jennifer Moreno Ortiz, who delivered an impressive 22-point performance on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. The 22-point outburst was her fourth game with 20-or-more points and her second in a row.
Cheyanne Whitfield also had a strong showing, scoring 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting while helping energize CSUMB's attack.
Leah Sarabia added eight points and seven rebounds, and Janelle Peña chipped in nine points.
The Golden Eagles raced out of the gate, scoring 28 points in the opening frame before holding the Otters to 12 in the second to head into the intermission with a 45-33 lead.
CSUMB scored 12 more in the third before fighting back with 19 in the fourth.
Monterey Bay will now face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
