SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay played arguably its most complete match of the season to finish a season sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills with a 25–16, 25–13, 25–21 win Friday evening in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB hit a season-high .442 by committing a season-low five errors Friday. That attack percentage ranks No. 3 in the Otter record book and marks the first time the Otters have hit .400 since hitting .451 in a sweep of Dominican University in 2021.

Freshman Milan Harvey (Bartlett, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) led a balanced Otter attack by hitting .636 with seven kills in 11 swings. Senior outside hitter Malia Peterson (Redondo Union HS) continued her strong push toward postseason honors by hitting .500 with 14 kills in 24 attempts.

A Malia Thorne (Newport Harbor HS) kill snapped a 10–10 tie in the opening frame and the Otters eased away to the early lead. Dominguez Hills used a quick run to pull within 15–13 in the second set before a pair of Kayla Smith (Conway, Ark./MPC/Conway HS) ignited a 9-point service run by Gia Hoffman (Loomis/Del Oro HS) that put away the second set.

The Toros fought back early in the third set, with former Otter Rilee Graham putting down the last of her team-high six kills to give them their biggest lead of the night at 9–7. That's as close as they would get, however, as three consecutive Peterson kills snapped a 12–12 tie and the Otters never trailed again.

Junior libero Macey Camacho (Chandler, Ariz./Basha HS) led the backline with 11 digs, her fourth consecutive match in double figures. Thorne led the net defense with four blocks.

FRIDAY'S TURNING POINT WAS… With Dominguez Hills looking to tie the match trailing by just two in the second set, Gia Hoffman served the final nine points of a 10–0 run that gave the Otters and insurmountable 2–0 lead with the 25–13 victory.

HOW HIGH CAN YOU FLY? CSUMB's .442 attack percentage (43-5-86) in Friday's sweep of Dominguez Hills ranks No. 3 in the Otter record book for attack percentage in a match. They hit a record .606 (45-2-71) against Holy Names University in 2017 and .451 (44-7-82) against Dominican University in 2021.

HOW LOW CAN YOU GO? By holding the Dominguez Hills to 13 points in the second set of Friday's sweep, the Otters limited the Toros to the fewest points in a set by an opponent this season. The previous low was 15 in a sweep of UC Merced on Oct. 3.

HOW SWEEP IT IS… The Otters completed the season sweep of Dominguez Hills with Friday's 25–16, 25–13, 25–21 win. It's CSUMB's first season sweep of an opponent since taking two from the Toros in 2024.

TORO TAMERS… Friday's sweep of Dominguez Hills marked CSUMB's 26th win all-time against the Toros (26–9), its most wins against any opponent.

PETERSON EYES 600-KILL CLUB… With 14 kills in Friday's sweep of Dominguez Hills, Malia Peterson took a big step towards becoming just the 13th player in program history to reach 600 kills. She'll enter Saturday's matinée against Cal State San Marcos with 591 kills.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Malia Peterson 16.5; KILLS: Malia Peterson 14; BLOCKS: Malia Thorne 4; ACES: Malia Peterson 2; DIGS: Macey Camacho 11.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their 4-match homestand Saturday when they host Cal State San Marcos for a nonconference match. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.

GO OTTERS!
