SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay goalkeeper
Jerry Godfryd has been named the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week following a perfect week between the posts for the Otters.
Godfryd recorded back-to-back shutouts while helping CSUMB earn a pair of 3-0 victories over UC Merced and Chico State. The senior played all 180 minutes, finishing the week with 10 saves, a 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals-against average.
Godfryd opened the week with five saves in Monterey Bay's 3-0 road victory at UC Merced. He turned away every shot on goal he faced as the Otters collected three points away from home.
He followed with another five-save performance in a 3-0 victory over Chico State at Cardinale Stadium. Godfryd made four of his five saves in the opening half and also contributed on the offensive end, earning an assist on
Aziah Nelson's first-half goal.
The two clean sheets extended Godfryd's shutout streak to three consecutive matches since making his season debut on Oct. 3 against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Through his first three appearances of the season, Godfryd has yet to surrender a goal, totaling 15 saves across 270 scoreless minutes. The Otters are a perfect 3-0-0 with Godfryd in goal and have outscored their opponents 8-0 during that stretch.
Godfryd's performances also helped Monterey Bay extend its overall unbeaten streak to four matches as the Otters improved to 7-2-3 overall and 3-1-3 in CCAA play.
The Otters host Fresno Pacific on Thursday, Oct. 15.
