SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Another big game from senior outside hitter Malia Peterson (Redondo Union HS) wasn't enough to help visiting Cal State Monterey Bay tame Cal State San Marcos as the Cougars won going away, 25–21, 25–22, 25–9, Saturday afternoon at CSUSM's Sports Center.

Peterson finished with a team-leading 13 kills, giving her 28 for the weekend. But she was the only Otter to manage more than five kills Saturday. Libero Macey Camacho (Chandler, Ariz./Basha HS) dug 15 balls, her most ever in a 3-set match at the collegiate level.

CSUMB rallied from an early 10–4 deficit to tie the first set at 20-all before a 3-point spurt broke it open for San Marcos. The second set was tied at 21-all when Ebony Lewis got a kill then went back to serve an ace to give the hosts control in that one.

Things went south from there as San Marcos took advantage of eight unforced Otter errors to pull away early in the third and complete the sweep.

The Otters return home to host a pair of CCAA matches next weekend, beginning Friday when Chico State visits The Kelp Bed. The Otters will meet Stanislaus State Saturday in the only contest of the season between the schools. First serve both evenings will be at 5 p.m.

GO OTTERS!
