Otters Stay Hot, Roll Past Gators 91–57

Six Otters reach double figures in rout

SAN FRANCISCO — The Cal State Monterey Bay offense stayed hot, running away from San Francisco State for a 91–57 victory Thursday night in the Swamp.

CSUMB finishes the first half of its CCAA schedule at 11–6 overall and 6–5 in conference play, good for a share of fourth place.

Jaden Tengan (Sacramento/Santa Clarita Christian HS) led the balanced attack with a game-high 17 points. Junior Jackson Corley (Napa/Vintage HS) showed no ill effects from his month-long injury absence by scoring a career-high 14 points in just 18 minutes off the bench. Mezziah Oakman (Columbia, S.C./UCSB) came off the bench to record his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

SFSU scored the game's first four points, but consecutive 3-pointers from Joey Bilello (Littleton, Colo./ThunderRidge HS), Ashton Reese (Scottsdale, Ariz./UMBC) and Tengan quickly gave the Otters a 9–6 lead they wouldn't relinquish over the final 36:34. The lead grew to 26 points late in the first half and to as many as 35 in the second half before the Otters settled on the 34-point final margin.

In addition to Tengan, Corley and Oakman, Reese scored 11 points while Bilello and Miki Gacic (Belgrade, Serbia/Asheville [N.C.] School] added 10 points each. Michael Mora (Palo Alto/Univ. of Vermont) saw his streak of 13 consecutive games in double figures end with nine points.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… As is tradition, we use the Bill James Safe Lead Formula in this space to determine when the game was over statistically. Thursday, that moment came when Joey Bilello drove the lane for an uncontested layup that gave the Otters a 73–46 lead with 8:49 remaining.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN: The Otters matched their season high with 15 3-pointers for the second consecutive game in Thursday's win at San Francisco State. That mark is tied for No. 3 on the Otter single-game record list, a mark they've reached three times already in the 2025-26 campaign (also vs. Central Washington on Nov. 15).

CHILDREN OF THE 90s: Of course, none of the current Otter players were actually born in the 90s, but the Otters reached the 90-point mark for the second consecutive game in Thursday's 91–57 win at San Francisco State, marking the first time since 2019 that they were able to turn that trick. They did it then vs. Concordia-Portland (97–92 on Nov. 9) and the University of Alaska (96–67 on Nov. 15). It's just the seventh time in program history they've scored 90 points in consecutive regulation games.

TRIPLE-DOUBLE DIGITS: Once again, at least three Otters scored in double digits Thursday at San Francisco State. This time, the honors went to: Jaden Tengan (17), Jackson Corley (14), Mezziah Oakman (11), Ashton Reese (11), Joey Bilello (10) and Miki Gacic (10). It marked the 23rd consecutive game in which at least three Otters scored in double figures.

A SIX-PACK OF DOUBLE-DIGITS: Thursday's win at San Francisco State marked the 10th time in 17 games this season that at least four Otters scored in double digits, the second time that five Otters did it, and the first time that six Otters reached that mark. It's the first time that has happened since six Otters did it in a win over Sonoma State on Jan. 25, 2025.

SPREADING THE WEALTH: Of the 10 Otters who have seen action in at least eight games this season, nine of them have registered at least one double-digit scoring game.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT: POINTS: Jaden Tengan 17; REBOUNDS: Mezziah Oakman 11; ASSISTS: Chol Deng/Michael Mora/Jaden Tengan 3; BLOCKS: Mezziah Oakman 1; STEALS: Chol Deng 4.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT: The Otters will test themselves against the CCAA's best when they travel to meet undefeated and No. 5 ranked Cal State East Bay (17–0) Saturday in Pioneer Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. as the nightcap of doubleheader action with the Otter women.
