SEASIDE, Calif. – Junior guard
Jennifer Moreno Ortiz continued her hot play with a career-high 29 points en route to leading the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team to a convincing, 69-49, victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills, Thursday evening at the Kelp Bed.
The Otters led after every quarter, opening with a 17–14 first period and then extending their advantage behind consistent offensive production and strong defensive pressure. CSUMB shot 44.4 percent from the field and hit 8 of 17 three-point attempts, while also making 13 of 20 free throws to maintain separation throughout the second half.
Newcomer
Riley Walls provided 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and pulled down five rebounds to help sustain Monterey Bay's offense.
Jayden McNeal scored six points with four rebounds, and
Aliyah Young added nine points with two made threes to stretch the floor.
Brianna Bouton contributed three points and four rebounds, while
Malaysia Lucero added two points and eight rebounds as part of CSUMB's balanced effort.
The Otters finished with 39 total rebounds and forced 13 turnovers, turning defensive stops into transition opportunities that led to key baskets. CSUMB also scored 28 points in the paint and hit 50 percent of its three-point attempts, underscoring its balanced scoring attack and efficiency on offense.
The Otters will host Cal State LA on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
