Three Otters Score in Double-Figures, but Fall to the Golden Eagles, 82-64

A’ajah Slocum nears triple-double in weekend finale

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team closed out the weekend with an 82-64 defeat at the hands of Cal State LA on Saturday at the Kelp Bed.

The Otters opened strong with a 20–19 first quarter and kept the game tight through the first half, trailing by just two at halftime, 43–33, before Cal State LA pulled away in the second half.

Jennifer Moreno Ortiz led the Otters with 11 points on 3-for-7 shooting, hitting two three-pointers and adding six rebounds in 32 minutes. A'ajah Slocum contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and a team-high eight assists while nearing a triple-double.

Riley Walls scored 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting and pulled down three rebounds, and Aliyah Young added nine points, going 3-for-8 from three to help stretch the defense.

The Otters collected 31 rebounds and forced Cal State LA into 15 turnovers, but the Golden Eagles' depth and consistent scoring in the third quarter allowed them to build a lead CSUMB couldn't overcome late.

Monterey Bay connected on six of 21 three-point attempts and scored 30 points in the paint, showing balanced offensive contributions even in a tough matchup.

The Otters hit the road again and will face San Francisco State on Thursday, Jan. 22. They close out the week against Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Jan. 24. Both games will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
