SEASIDE, Calif. —
Junior setter Maya Cann (Chico HS) capped a prolific weekend performance by earning CCAA Setter of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 21.

It is the first such award for Cann, who led Feather River College to the California State Championship as a sophomore last season. Cann is the eighth Otter volleyball player ever to win the award and the first to do so as a setter.

Combined with Lilly Bandle, who was named CCAA Defensive PoTW last week, it marks just the second time ever that two Otters have earned the weekly award in the same season. The others were Rheann Fall and Melanie Lashbrook in 2010.

Cann led the Otters to a sweep Thursday at Cal State East Bay in their CCAA opener with 34 assists, the third-most in a sweep by a CCAA setter this season. She saved her biggest performance for the CCAA home opener two nights later when she passed 59 assists in a 5-setter against UC Merced. Her 59 helpers were the most by a CCAA setter this season and the third most in a match in Otter history.

It's worth noting that Cann also owns the No. 2 mark in the CCAA for 2025 with 49 assists against Azusa Pacific back on Sept. 13.

CSUMB continues CCAA play with a trip to Southern California this weekend. The Otters will face defending conference champ Cal Poly Pomona Friday and Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday.

First serve both evenings is scheduled for 5 p.m. Fans who can't make it to either match can watch on the FloSports Network (OtterAthletics.com/watch).
