NAMPA – For the second time in as many weeks the No. 19-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped a regional contest to the host team, this time falling to No. 8 Northwest Nazarene, 14-0, Thursday evening at Elmore W. Vail Field
.
The Otters will have to do what they have done plenty of times before and win two games to advance to the next round with their backs against the wall. That is exactly what they did at the Westmont regional, winning two games on Saturday to move to the super regional round.
CSUMB was hindered by two big innings as NNU scored four runs in the second and added six in the fifth to pull away for the series opening victory.
The Otters were out-hit 16-4 as Monterey Bay collected the four hits all from different bats.
The two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow at 5 p.m. PT.
