The Otters are Headed to Westmont as the No. 3 Seed in the Region

CSUMB will once again face San Francisco State in postseason play

May 11, 2025

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team was selected as the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament, the NCAA announced Sunday evening on its annual selection show. Westmont, the No. 2 seed, will host the regional, which will be played, May 15-18, at Russ Carr Field in Santa Barbara.

The NCAA postseason selection marks the eighth time in the last 11 seasons that CSUMB is headed to the NCAA Tournament.

"This will be a very competitive regional with Westmont and SF State," CSUMB head coach Walt White said. "We are quite familiar with SF, but this will be our first time seeing Westmont. Both ball clubs are well deserving and will be every bit of a challenge."

Fresh off the CCAA Tournament championship, CSUMB (36–16, 26–14), enters the regional as the No. 2 seed behind the Warriors after claiming the regular season title a week ago.

"We feel we are playing our best baseball right now, and the team that plays the game the best is typically the team that comes out on top," Coach White added. "Our experience and veteran leadership have served us well over the course of the season and we will lean on it this week. We earned this opportunity to compete and the Otters are ready to go."

The Otters will be joined in Santa Barbara by No. 6-seeded San Francisco State (33–21, 25–15) in a double elimination format. The two teams will open the regional on Thursday, and be facing off for the sixth time in the month of May and the third time in the postseason. The Otters and Gators take the field at 11 a.m.

Like CSUMB, host Westmont (41–12, 33–10 PacWest) won both its regular season and conference tournament titles.

The Otters are 12–15 all–time in NCAA Tournament competition, including a 3–1 mark at last season's regional in Seaside. Monterey Bay made its third straight Super Regional appearance in 2024.

Northwest Nazarene (40–13, 27–5 GNAC) is the top seed in the West Region and will welcome in four-seed Point Loma (37–16, 32–12 PacWest) and five-seed Montana State Billings (32–20, 21–11 GNAC) to Nampa, Idaho.

The winners of the two regionals will compete in a best-of-three Super Regional from May 22 to 24 on the campus of one of the participants.
