HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal St. East Bay defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 10-3, on Friday at the Pioneer Baseball Field, dropping the ninth-ranked Otters to 21-6 overall and 6-3 in CCAA play.

The Pioneers built an early lead and never trailed, putting up crooked numbers in four different frames.

CSUEB got off to a quick start, scoring an unearned run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Gio Martini. The Pioneers extended their advantage in the second inning when Logan Stelling launched a solo home run to left field, followed by a run-scoring single from Micah Cervantes to make it 3-0.

CSUMB managed an unearned run in the fourth inning when
James Starkus scored on a groundout by
Xander Sielken. However, the Pioneers responded with two more runs in the fifth before adding two additional runs in the seventh inning.

Stelling struck again in the seventh with a two-run home run to left field, extending the Pioneer lead to 7-1.

CSUEB continued to add runs in the eighth inning, plating three runs to push their advantage to 10-1. Cristian Angulo doubled down the right field line for one run, followed by two additional runs scoring on sacrifice flies.

The Otters mounted a late rally in the ninth inning when
Bodee Goins and
Noah Zertuche each singled up the middle, driving in
JJ Kinnaird and
Aidan Mowins.

The Otters managed four hits in the contest. Zertuche and Goins each recorded one hit and one RBI in the ninth inning rally.

On the mound, Ryan Juric (1-2) earned the win for East Bay, scattering one hit over five innings with one run allowed, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Hayden Hall (5-1) took the loss for CSUMB, allowing five runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Kyle Giovannoni pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief for the Otters, and
Truman Parker pitched an inning.

The two teams will meet for a doubleheader tomorrow with first pitch of game one scheduled for Noon.
