SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team rallied late to secure a 3-2 victory and series split of Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex. After the series, CSUMB moves to 21-12 overall and 14-10 in CCAA play.
The Otters found themselves in an early 2-0 hole in the third and were sluggish at the plate until breaking through in the sixth.
CSUMB plated two runs to even the score in the bottom half. A key pinch-hit single up the middle off the bat of
Sergio Solis started the Otter rally.
Jacob Dressler then took advantage of a Toro error to even the score when
Cole Murchison was able to cross the plate.
In the next inning,
Javier Felix smashed his second double of the game, cashing in the eventual game-winner, plating
Noah Zertuche. Felix paced the Otters with the two hits.
Despite the CSUMB bats starting the contest cold, the arms kept the Otters in the game. Aiden Lee allowed six hits and two runs – one earned and fanned five in five innings.
Andrew Kotin shut the door on the Toros, allowing just two hits while striking out six in four innings of exceptional relief to improve 2-1 on the season.
The Otters will travel to Cal State LA for a four-game series. The two teams will open the series on Friday, April 11.
