SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split its doubleheader with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday at the Otters Sports Complex. The Otters won the first game, 11-7, and then dropped the nightcap, 11-3.
GAME 1
The Otters evened the series by taking game one by the score of 11-7. CSUMB smashed four home runs and banged out 15 hits in the winning effort.
Max Farfan,
Javier Felix and
Jacob Dressler all collected three hits as Farfan drove in three and started the scoring with a two-run home run in the second inning.
Jaden Sheppard went deep in the third to push the Otter advantage to 4-0. Felix and
Noah Zertuche also hit home runs for CSUMB.
Ryan Sleeman (2-0) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits in five innings. The lefthander struck out seven and walked one.
Drew Aguiar was credited with the save after two innings of relief to close out the contest.
GAME 2
The Toros returned the favor in the second game of the twin-bill, defeating the Otters 11-3.
CSUMB raced out to a quick 3-0 lead on the strength of back-to-back doubles from
Jaden Sheppard and
Sergio Solis in the first inning.
CSUDH would answer quickly in the ensuing frame, scoring five runs. The Toros would add another in the fourth and put the game away with five in the seventh to secure the victory.
Sheppard recorded two doubles in the nightcap, while Andrew Lehman also tallied a pair of hits.
The Otters look to even the series tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
