SALEM, W.Va. — Cal State Monterey Bay saw its Western Water Polo Association title hopes end in the semifinals of the WWPA Championship tournament with a 16–9 loss to No. 1 seed Biola University Saturday afternoon at the Peak Health Aquatics Center at Mylan Park.

The start was promising for CSUMB after a pair of Emma Sosa (Tustin/Foothill HS) goals gave the Otters a 2–0 lead before the match was a minute old. But the offense short-circuited from there, with CSUMB going 0-for-9 on its first nine power play opportunities.

Biola took full advantage, going on an 8–0 run over the next 14-plus minutes. The Otters never got closer than five goals in the second half.

Autumn Day (Murrieta Valley HS) and Kaya Eaton (San Diego/Helix Charter HS) each registered hat tricks to lead the Otter offense. For Day, it marked her 10th hatty of the season. For Eaton, it was her third.

Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS), Kira Clark (Fremont/Mission San Jose HS) and Ximena Pichon (Clovis HS) each passed a pair of assists to aid the attack. Marissa White (Union City/Mission San Jose HS) made seven saves in goal.

CSUMB will play its season rubber match with Fresno Pacific in the WWPA tournament third place game Sunday. First sprint is scheduled for 11 a.m. (EDT).
