Otters Earn Series Split with 13-4 Win in the Finale

Evan Stauch collects three hits and drives in five

SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 24-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team earned a series split with Cal State San Marcos after running away with a 13-4 victory in the finale on Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex. After the series, the Otters move to 27-14 overall and 20-12 in CCAA play.

CSUMB came out of the gates quickly once again, scoring a pair of runs in the opening frame on the strength of a two-run homer off the bat of Evan Stauch

The Otters would add two more in the fifth and put up a four-spot in the sixth and seventh to secure the win. Stauch then drove in runs in back-to-back-to-back innings in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to finish the day 3-for-4 with five RBI.

On top of Stauch, five different Otters recorded multi-hit games as KW Quilici batted 3-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Jacob Dressler, Javier Felix, and Max Farfan each had a pair of hits.

Noah Zertuche went deep and scored three runs, batting 2-for-3 on the day. The junior smacked his seventh home run of the season in the seventh inning.

Lefthander Mitchell Torres improved to 3-1 on the season after allowing three runs – two earned on four hits in six innings while striking out seven.

The Otters will travel to face Stanislaus State. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
