LOS ANGELES – Two grand slams and five scoreless innings of relief propelled the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team to a 12-6 victory and a series sweep over Cal State LA on Sunday at Reeder Field.
The Otters scored nine runs combined in the third and fourth innings to improve to 25-12 overall and 18-10 in CCAA play.
Max Farfan continued his stellar visit to Los Angeles by smashing a grand slam in the third inning.
Cole Murchison followed in the fourth with a grand slam of his own to move the CSUMB lead to 12-3.
KW Quilici batted 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Andrew Lehman and Farfan collected two hits apiece.
Both teams opened the game by trading off three runs in the opening frame, but the nine ensuing runs ended up securing the sweep for the Otters.
Dylan Gardner (3-1) and
Jacob Parks combined to shut the door on the Golden Eagles, and Gardner earned the win after tossing four innings, allowing three hits, and fanning three.
Jacob Parks struck out three in a perfect ninth.
The Otters return home to host Cal State San Marcos for a four-game series. The first game is scheduled for Thursday, April 17.
