CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay track & field team continued its hot start to the young season with more conference qualifying marks being met at the Wildcat Invitational, Saturday at University Stadium.
"We had a very strong showing today on both teams," head coach
Greg Rhines said. "I was so impressed with the steeplers, the 1,500m and 800m competitors, and with our hurdlers. It's early in the season and it's great to see the teams are already taking off."
Rachel Hoops won the 800m, crossing the line in a time of 2:16.90.
Kayla Young and
Ava Wettlaufer finished 9th and 10th, respectively. Young ran 2:29.30, securing first in her heat, while Wettlaufer followed with a time of 2:31.88.
Hannah Amundsen led the way for CSUMB, winning the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:43.40. She was closely followed by
Maya Centeno who secured second place in 11:45.56, while
Cozette Wood rounded out the podium in third place with a time of 11:55.46.
Taylar Yost claimed the 400m hurdle title with a time of 1:06.03. Teammate
Cassidy Andreadakis also had a strong race, finishing third in 1:09.92, giving CSUMB two podium finishes in the event.
On the men's side,
William Trowbridge dominated the 3,000m steeplechase, securing first place with a time of 11:00.76.
Cameron Cornforth and
Erik Bromley put in strong performances in the 800m, finishing 11th and 12th, respectively. Cornforth clocked a time of 2:00.86, narrowly edging out Bromley, who crossed the line at 2:00.90.
Erik Bromley delivered an impressive performance in the 1,500m, securing a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:58.70. Breaking the 4-minute barrier for the first time in his collegiate career.
The Otters will train through the week and return to the oval at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday, March 22.
