SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split its doubleheader with Chico State on Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex. The Otters dropped the first game, 8-6, and then took game two, 5-1 to regain the series lead.
GAME ONE
The Otters raced out to a 3-1 lead, but gave up a four-spot in the fourth and three more the rest of the way as the Wildcats evened the series with the 8-6 victory.
CSUMB banged out nine hits to Chico's eight as
Noah Zertuche and
Javier Felix tallied multi-hit games. Zertuche also scored twice and drove in a pair.
The Otters started off their scoring in the second when
Jimmy Garcia plated Felix on a groundout RBI.
Nick Maestas scored on a
Jaden Sheppard fielder's choice and then Zertuche scored on an error.
CSUMB made some noise in the ninth as Zertuche hit a two-run homer to pull within the final score of 8-6.
GAME TWO
The Otters scored three runs in the second inning and a pair in the fifth to take down the Wildcats in the backend of the doubleheader, 5-1.
Javier Felix and
Max Farfan both went deep in that three-run second and
KW Quilici and
Jaden Sheppard drove in runs in the fifth.
CSUMB out-hit Chico, 10-5, as
Cole Murchison and Farfan collected multi-hit games. Farfan posted two RBI on his home run.
Aidan Lee (4-1) was dominant in his return to the mound, allowing one unearned run on four hits in his five innings.
Ryan Io closed it out, pitching two innings of scoreless relief.
The two teams will close out the series at Noon.
