Otters Open Road Series with 9-3 Victory at Azusa Pacific

CSUMB takes advantage of five Azusa errors

AZUSA, Calif. – The No. 13-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team opened its first road series of the season with a 9-3 victory over Azusa Pacific Thursday afternoon at the Cougar Baseball Complex.

Behind a strong start from Nate Rohlicek and five Cougar errors, the Otters were able to run away with the series opening victory.

Rohlicek allowed one run on two hits and fanned six in four innings, while Aidan Lee earned his second win of the season after scattering five hits and allowing two runs in four innings of relief. Andrew Kotin struck out two to close out the ballgame.

Max Farfan hit his first home run of the season and Andrew Lehmann scored twice and tallied his first hit in an Otter uniform. Dominic Felice batted 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run.

After the two teams breezed through the first three innings, CSUMB scored in five consecutive frames, putting up crooked numbers in three of them.

Javier Felix started the scoring with a single up the middle to plate KW Quilici in the fourth and then Farfan smacked a two-run shot in the fifth. The Otters then scored a pair in the sixth, another in the seventh and put the game away with a three-spot in the eighth.

The two teams will continue the series tomorrow at 5 p.m.
