Otters Split Doubleheader; Rally to Take Game Two of Series

CSUMB looks to split series in Sunday finale

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split its doubleheader on the road at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday. The Otters rallied to win the frontend of the twin-bill, 9-7, and dropped the nightcap, 6-0.

GAME 1

The Otters returned the favor and scored four runs in the ninth innings to rally and even the series in the first game of the doubleheader.

CSUMB took advantage of back-to-back errors, while Jacob Dressler drove in a pair to hand the Otters the win. Dressler went 3-for-5 and drove in three.

Cole Murchison also banged out three hits, while Javier Felix and Sergio Solis posted multi-hit games.

Ryan Sleeman earned his first win of the season and Andrew Kotin was credited with the save. The CSUMB bullpen allowed no earned runs and only four hits in six innings of work.

GAME 2

The late comeback in game one of the twin-bill did not translate to game two as the host Broncos seized the series lead with a 6-0 victory.

Jaden Sheppard and Javier Felix both batted 2-for-3 in the loss. Kyle Giovannoni was tagged with his first loss of the season after allowing three runs on four hits in his three inning start.

The two conference foes will decide the series tomorrow at noon.
