POMONA, Calif. – The No. 19 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped its CCAA opener on the road at Cal Poly Pomona, 9-7, Friday evening at Scolinos Field.
A five-run sixth inning by the Broncos ultimately sunk the Otters as they entered the frame with a 7-3 lead.
Senior
KW Quilici paced CSUMB at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort, driving in two and smacking his first home run of the season.
Javier Felix hit his second home run in an Otter uniform, while
Jaden Sheppard and
Jacob Dressler posted multi-hit games.
Aidan Lee was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs – two earned in 2 2/3 innings of relief. The right-hander allowed six hits and fanned five.
Nate Rohlicek allowed five runs and struck out three in 5 1/3 innings.
After allowing two runs in the first inning, the Otters scored a pair in the second and added runs in the third and fourth before tacking on three in the sixth.
The two teams will meet tomorrow for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
