SAN JOSE, Calif. — Four goals from standout freshman Emma Sosa (Tustin/Foothill HS) wasn't enough to slow a fast start from host San Jose State as the Spartans went on to earn a 22–9 victory Saturday afternoon at SRAC Pool.

Sosa posted her second 4-goal game and her third hat trick through her first six collegiate matches. She now has 13 goals on the season, only one behind team leader Autumn Day (Murrieta Valley HS).

But Sosa's strong showing couldn't slow down the No. 16 ranked Spartans, who raced to a 7–0 lead in the first quarter before Sosa broke the ice for CSUMB. Annika Harper (San Diego/Clairemont HS) followed Sosa with her second of the season on the ensuing Otter possession, but SJSU scored the first three goals of the second quarter to reassert control.

In addition to Sosa and Harper, Natalie Mancinelli (El Dorado Hills/Oak Ridge HS) and Stella Martin (Clovis West HS) each registered a goal and an assist to pace the Otter offense. Ximena Pichon (Clovis HS) passed a pair of assists to take the team lead in that category with nine through six matches. Alex Harris (Davis Senior HS) forced a pair of turnovers and Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS) drew a pair of ejections to add to the Otter highlights in Saturday's match.

The Otters continue their grueling preseason schedule by facing their third nationally-ranked opponent in four matches when No. 18 San Diego State visits the Otter tanks Saturday (Feb. 8) for a 1 p.m. first sprint.
