SEASIDE, Calif. — San Diego State used a strong team defensive to slow down Cal State Monterey Bay after a hot start, riding that effort to a 21–7 victory Saturday afternoon in the Otter Tank.

CSUMB stayed close early and trailed just 6–3 when Autumn Day (Murrieta Valley HS) beat the first period horn. But the 23rd-ranked Aztec defense clamped down from that point, sparking an 11–0 over the ensuing 18 minutes that gave them control of the match.

"We are seeing a lot of growth and development in each game. It is great seeing that we can compete with ranked programs," said CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit.

Day led the Otter offense with a pair of goals, her team-leading 15th and 16th of the season. Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS) had a goal and a pair of assists. Stella Martin (Clovis West HS) passed two assists while fellow sophomore Annika Harper (San Diego/Clairemont HS) added a score and a helper.

Freshman goalkeeper Marissa White (Union City/Mission San Jose HS) mad a couple of highlight reel saves amongst her six blocks. Long Beach State transfer Alex Harris (Davis Senior HS) added a pair of field blocks.

The Otters hit the road for the next two weeks, beginning with a trip up the 101 for the Santa Clara Invitational Feb. 15–16. There they'll take on four more NCAA Division I opponents, starting with Cal State Northridge on the Feb. 15 at 9 a.m.
