Humboldt Rallies To Upend Otters In Five

D’Eliseo and Haan reach double figures with 10 kills each

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball's love-hate relationship with 5-set matches continued Saturday evening as the Otters fell in five for the seventh time in 13 matches, this time against Cal Poly Humboldt in The Kelp Bed.

Freshmen Juliette D'Eliseo (Carlsbad/Sage Creek HS) and Zoe Haan (Phoenix/Sunnyslope HS) led a balanced Otter offense with 10 kills apiece. Senior setter Mia Dilley (Clovis East HS/Fresno CC) led three players in double figures with 18 digs. Lilly Bandle (Jackson, Wisc./West Bend East HS) led a strong Otter night at the net with seven blocks.

CSUMB let a late lead slip away in the first set but found its footing with comfortable wins in sets two and three. The Otters let Humboldt slip ahead early in the fourth before a late rally got them to within 21–19.

But the Lumberjacks scored eight of the next 10 points to close the fourth and jump out early in the fifth. CSUMB staved off three match points before Humboldt was able to close the match safely.
 

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Tatyana Jennings put down a kill to end CSUMB's run of three match points saved to end the night.

OTTERS KEEP GOING THE DISTANCE: The Otters went the distance for the eighth time in 13 matches this season Saturday against Cal Poly Humboldt. For those keeping track at home, that now stands alone as the second most times they've played five in a single season. The Otter record is 13 such matches during the 2013 campaign.

FIVE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER… With apologies to Three Dog Night, one isn't the loneliest number for Otter volleyball, it's five. After winning their season-opener in five sets over Dominican University, the Otters have lost seven consecutive matches that have gone the distance.

D'ELISEO DOUBLE-DOUBLE… With 10 kills and 15 digs, freshman Juliette D'Eliseo recorded her team season-high fourth double-double of 2025. Fellow freshman Zoe Haan and junior Malia Peterson own CSUMB's other four double-doubles with two apiece.

HAAN CONTINUES TO DOUBLE UP… Freshman outside hitter Zoe Haan recorded 10 kills Saturday versus Cal Poly Humboldt to run her streak of double-figure kill matches to five in a row. She has reached double figures in kills in 12 of her 13 collegiate matches. The only time she didn't was when she posted eight kills in 21 swings in a sweep of Cal State East Bay on Sept. 18.

BANDLE ON THE BLOCKS… Junior Lilly Bandle recorded seven blocks Saturday versus Cal Poly Humboldt, good for the No. 14 spot on the list for blocks in a 5-set match. It's the second time this season she has recorded seven blocks in a match.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their 3-match homestand by hosting defending CCAA champions Cal Poly Pomona Friday (Oct. 10). First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
