Otters Drop Another Heartbreaker In Five

Three Otters in double figures not enough as Stanislaus rallies

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay continues to play solid volleyball, only to come agonizingly close to victory. Friday night, the Otters played their seventh 5-setter of the season before bowing to undefeated Stanislaus State 20–25, 25–17, 23–25, 25–23, 15–12 in The Kelp Bed.

Freshman Juliette D'Eliseo (Carlsbad/Sage Creek HS) led a balanced Otter attack with 14 kills. Junior Jenna Kraft (Rocklin/Whitney HS) added a career-high 12 kills while freshman Zoe Haan (Phoenix/Sunnyslope HS) chipped in 11.

Senior libero Mia Dilley (Clovis East HS/Fresno CC) led the backline with a season-high 26 digs. Haan led six Otters in double figures with a season-high five blocks.

The opening frame set the tone for the evening as the teams played through 12 ties and five lead changes. Three kills by Haan helped CSUMB break a 17–17 tie as the Otters scored eight of the final 11 points to jump to a quick 1–0 lead.

Stanislaus raced to early leads in each of the final four sets. The Otters had an answer each time, but could prevent the Warriors from hanging on in the third set only.

CSUMB led 2–1 to start the fifth, but the Warriors responded with a 5–0 run to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Otters pulled to within 13–12 on D'Eliseo's 14th kill of the match. Isabelle Saucedo ended hopes of an Otter comeback by putting down her 18th and 19th kills to close the affair.
 

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Isabelle Saucedo recorded her match-high 18th and 19th kills after CSUMB pulled to within 13–12 in the fifth set.

SHE'S KRAFTY… Junior outside hitter Jenna Kraft enjoyed the most prolific attacking night of her collegiate career by putting down 12 kills Friday against Stanislaus State. Her previous best had been seven kills, set twice earlier this season.

OTTERS KEEP GOING THE DISTANCE: The Otters went the distance for the seventh time in 12 matches this season Friday against Stanislaus State. For those keeping track at home, that already is tied for the second most times they've played five in a season (they also played seven 5-setters in 2012 and 2023). The Otter record is 13 such matches during the 2013 campaign.

AN OTTER TRIPLE-DOUBLE… Juliette D'Eliseo (14), Jenna Kraft (12) and Zoe Haan (11) each reached double-figure kills Friday against Stanislaus State. It marks the third time this season three Otters have reached double figures in the same match. They also record that feat in a season-opening win over Dominican University and in a 5-set thriller versus Azusa Pacific.

D'ELISEO DOUBLE-DOUBLE… With 14 kills and a season-high 18 digs, freshman Juliette D'Eliseo recorded her team season-high third double-double of 2025. Fellow freshman Zoe Haan and junior Malia Peterson own CSUMB's other four double-doubles with two apiece.
