Otters Sweep Back To Win Column

Haan leads the way with 15 kills

ARCATA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball swept its way back into the win column with 25–22, 25–18, 25–22 victory over Cal Poly Humboldt Saturday afternoon in Lumberjack Arena.

The win marked CSUMB's second sweep of 2025. It came in its most statistically impressive performance of the season.

The Otters hit a season-high .333 while putting down 45 kills against just 13 errors, their second-fewest of the season.

Freshman Zoe Haan (Phoenix/Sunnyslope HS) led all attackers with 15 kills while hitting a healthy .522. Junior Malia Peterson (Redondo Union HS) reached double figures for the fourth time this season with 11 kills.

Freshman outside hitter Juliette D'Eliseo (Carlsbad/Sage Creek HS) had a quiet attacking day with six kills, but dominated the backline with a season-high 19 digs.

CSUMB needed to rally to win the first set. Trailing 20–16, the Otters got two kills each by Haan and Peterson and aces from D'Eliseo and freshman middle Talula Crandell (Loomis/Del Oro HS) in a 9–2 closing run to take the win.

The Otters took the lead for good at 12–11 in the third set before leading wire-to-wire in the third.
 

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… a Malia Peterson kill in transition extinguished a late Humboldt rally for match point.

HAAN HEATS UP… Freshman Zoe Haan reached double figures for the 14th time in 17 matches with 15 kills in Saturday's sweep of Cal Poly Humboldt. They were her most kills in a 3-set match with the Otters and the most by an Otter in a sweep since Jenna Tobin had 17 in a sweep of Holy Names University on Sept. 10, 2021.

HAAN ON THE OFFENSIVE… Freshman Zoe Haan hit a season-best .522 in Saturday's sweep at Cal Poly Humboldt. That mark ranks No. 10 in the Otter record book for attack percentage.

D'ELISEO DIGS IT… Not only were freshman Juliette D'Eliseo's 19 digs Saturday at Cal Poly Humboldt a personal best, they were the most by an Otter in a sweep since Ashlynne Armstrong had 21 against Cal Poly Pomona on Nov. 2, 2018.

CANN CLOSES IN ON 500 CAREER ASSISTS… Maya Cann leaped closer to the 500 career assist mark with her 25-assist performance Saturday at Cal Poly Humboldt. She'll head into Thursday's match versus San Francisco State with 479. She needs four more to pass Ruby Ennis for No. 12 all-time.

HUMBOLDT MOVES ATOP FAVORITE OPPONENTS LIST… With Saturday's sweep at the paws of the Otters, Cal Poly Humboldt has tied Cal State Dominguez Hills atop the list of most defeated Otter opponents with 24 losses. CSUMB does not face either school again this season, so the Lumberjacks and Toros will share that distinction entering the 2026 campaign.
