Gators Pull Away Late To Win In Four

Jack Wahl notches 17 kills, Mia Dilley adds 18 digs

SAN FRANCISCO — Cal State Monterey Bay played strong early, but CCAA contender San Francisco State pulled away late to earn a 25–16, 24–26, 25–13, 25–16 win Thursday evening in The Swamp.

Senior outside hitter Jackie Wahl (Palm Desert HS) continued her strong run of recent play by just missing her second consecutive double-double with 17 kills and nine digs. Freshman setter Ruby Ennis (Lakeside/El Capitan HS) did complete her second double-double in three matches by recording 36 assists and 10 digs.

Junior libero Mia Dilley (Clovis East/Fresno CC) finished with 18 digs, her second-highest total as an Otter. Mikayla Nolte (Long Beach Wilson HS) came off the bench to post CSUMB's lone block of the match.

The teams went toe-to-toe in the opening set, with the Gators using a late 3-point run to seal the win. The Otters ran off three consecutive points to break a 17–17 tie in the second. SFSU rallied to force bonus volleyball, staving off a pair of set points before Nolte's block of Tamiya Wilson ended it and knotted the match at 1–1.

The Gators took control from their, however, jumping to big leads early in the third and midway through fourth set.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… an Aidan Goodrich kill capped a 9–2 spurt that gave SFSU a 21–12 lead in the fourth set.

NOLTE ONE AWAY FROM SEVENTH… Mikayla Nolte became just the eighth player in Otter history to reach 40 block solos, a level she reached with her second set clinching stuff Thursday at San Francisco State. She needs one more solo to catch DJ Gresham-Ryder for No. 7 on the Otter career block solos list.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Jackie Wahl 18.0; KILLS: Jackie Wahl 7; BLOCKS: Mikayla Nolte 1; ACES: Macey Camacho/Mikayla Nolte/Jackie Wahl 1; DIGS: Mia Dilley 18.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their brief 2-match with a visit to perennial NCAA title contender Cal State San Bernardino Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
