Cathy Tong qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur for the second straight summer. The 124
th playing of the championship will be held on Aug. 5-11, at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
Tong fired a 2-under 68 to tie for third overall to punch her ticket to Tulsa at the single-round qualifier played on July 18 at the La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos.
The Hong Kong native shot a 6-over 146 in last year's U.S. Amateur held at the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. Tong opened the championship with a 1-over 71 before closing out play with a 5-over 75.
Tong was named the Otter Women's Athlete of the Year after earning first-team All-CCAA honors and leading CSUMB to the NCAA West Regional.
Tong, a reservist in the U.S. Army, holds the lowest scoring average (76.6) in program history. The communications major posted the second lowest scoring average in a single season with a 75.2 this past year.
Tong posted five top-10 finishes, including a fifth place showing at the CCAA Championship. Her second round score of 67 at the NCAA West Regional was her career low and the second lowest round recorded in program history.
