Blanc Posts Low Otter Round At Regional

Madi Blanc’s 73 second lowest NCAA Regional round ever by an Otter

May 06, 2024

STOCKTON, Calif. — Madi Blanc (Oakdale HS) fired a 1-over 73 to lead Cal State Monterey Bay at Day 1 of the NCAA Division II West Regional Monday afternoon at Brookside Country Club.

Blanc's opening salvo was the second lowest round ever by an Otter at an NCAA Regional and the lowest since Linnea Karlsson went 1-over on the same Brookside course at the 2016 event. Courtney Soekland owns the CSUMB record with a 69 in the second round of the 2012 regional.

In addition to Blanc, Zoe Offield (Stockton/Bear Creek HS) found a spot in the Top 40, tying for 34th place at 2-over 74.

The rest of the lineup struggled a bit, however, with CSUMB sitting in 12th place at 14-over 302 at the end of the opening round. Tilda Kvarnrud went 4-over Monday while Cathy Tong (Newport Harbor HS) recovered to grind out eight consecutive pars to close her scorecard at 7-over.

"Not the start we were hoping for today," said CSUMB Head Coach Jim Ragan. "We have a good team and will bounce back tomorrow and Wednesday. Madi posted a good 73 today to lead us. We are looking forward to regrouping and getting back after it tomorrow."

Dallas Baptist University hold the 18-hole lead at 6-under 282. West Texas A&M (-4) and Cal State East Bay (-1) also put up red numbers Monday.

Sofia Benavides of Oklahoma Christian sits atop the player leaderboard at 5-under 67.

The NCAA Division II women's Golf West Regional continues with 18 holes Tuesday at Brookside. Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com.
