CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split its doubleheader against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday. The Otters bounced back to claim a 12-5 victory in the first game but suffered a 12-8 loss in the nightcap.
GAME 1 | CSUMB 12 – CSUDH 5
The Otters banged out 16 hits and plated 12 runs to even the series in the front end of the doubleheader on Saturday.
CSUMB raced out to an early 3-0 lead in the first two innings and then added a crooked number with three in the fifth and five in the eighth to pull away with the win.
Mitchell Torres improved to 4-0 after allowing one run on four hits in six innings.
One of the top offensive threats in the CCAA continued his hot play as
KW Quilici batted 4-for-5, with four RBI and three runs.
Quilici opened the scoring with a two-run shot and added two more RBI singles.
JJ Engman collected three hits and scored three times and
Nico Hartojo went deep for the second time in the series and banged out two hits.
Jaden Sheppard also recorded four hits and
Brady Miguel chipped in a 2-for-5 effort with two runs scored and an RBI.
GAME 2 | CSUDH 12 – CSUMB 8
The Otters raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first but the Toros had an answer for each run en route to a 12-8 victory and a 2-1 series lead.
Cole Murchison batted a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI while
Nico Hartojo stayed hot, collecting two hits and three runs with an RBI.
Dominic Felice also recorded a multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 effort.
Ryan Platero (5-2) was tagged with his second loss of the season after allowing seven runs on eight hits in his three inning start.
The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. from Toro Field.
