Otters on Wrong End of a Windy Barnburner

CSUMB drops series opener, 18-12

CARSON, Calif. – In a game that featured 30 runs and six home runs, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team found themselves on the wrong end of an 18-12 decision in the series opener against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday at Toro Field.

CSUDH used three different five-run innings to sink CSUMB. The Otters did put together a four-run third and five-run eighth to stay in reach.

Preseason All-American Nico Hartojo batted 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in a pair. Sergio Solis also added a multi-hit game, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jaden Sheppard continued his power surge at the plate, blasting a grand slam in the third inning. Hartojo and Max Farfan also went deep for the Otters.

Nate Rohlicek (3-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing 12 runs – eight earned on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The Otters will look to bounce back tomorrow as the front end of the doubleheader will begin at Noon.
