SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's golf team used its lowest score of the tournament to finish second overall at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. The Otters fired a 2-over 290 to conclude the three-day event with a final score of 28-over 892 at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club.
"We had a solid final round today," head coach
Jim Ragan said. "As a team, we made 19 birdies and an eagle. It was good to finish on a positive note heading into postseason. It was a true team effort today. Cathy was solid this week, ending up fifth after challenging for the individual lead early in the round. Madi, Zoe, Tilda and Mia all contributed to our success this week!"
The runner-up finish ties the 2019 squad for the best finish in team history. The 290 helped propel CSUMB to its best three-round score of 892 at the Championship, surpassing the 893 of the 2019 team.
Cathy Tong earned All-Tournament honors by placing fifth overall with a final score of 5-over 221. The 221 is the second lowest in program history, just behind the 219 her teammate
Zoe Offield shot in 2019. Her 6-over is tied for the best in program history at the Championship.
Tong again was in the red on the front-nine, firing all three of her birdies to make the turn at 2-under. She finished the final round with a 3-over 75.
Madi Blanc carded her best round of the Championship with an even-par 72 to finish tied for sixth and post a 7-over 223.
Offield closed out her final CCAA Championship with the third lowest round of the entire tournament with a 2-under 70 and capped it off with an eagle on the par-5 18th. The senior tallied four birdies to tie for eighth overall with her final score of 8-over 224.
Tilda Kvarnrud was the fourth Otter to post a top-10 finish as she was tied for 10
th. Kvarnrud joined teammate
Mia Golovich to pace CSUMB with five birdies to shoot her lowest round of the tournament with a 2-over 74. She finished with a 9-over 225.
Golovich used those five birdies to shoot her low round of 2-over 74. She finished 16
th with a 15-over 231.
