SEASIDE, Calif. – A five-run second and a two-run fourth helped propel the Cal State Monterey baseball team to a 7-6 victory over Menlo College on Tuesday evening. After the victory, the Otters improve to 28-17 on the season.
CSUMB went into an early hole as Menlo plated three runs out of the gate in the first. The Otters answered in a big way in the second, scoring five runs in the frame.
The Otters scored those five runs on four hits as
Casey Hinojosa started the big inning with a single to bring home
Garrett Santos.
Jacob Dressler then plated a pair before
Aidan Mowins smacked a double to the wall in left-center to score
Alex Olvera and Dressler capped things off by scoring on a wild pitch.
In the fourth,
Jimmy Garcia scored Borraggine and
Matthew Oliden drew a bases loaded walk.
Borraggine and Garcia both collected two hits, while Dressler scored twice, drove in a pair and posted two walks.
The Otter pitching staff brought out a different arm in each inning as
Ryan Io (1-0) was credited with win. The righthander pitched a scoreless inning and walked one.
Michael Potter earned his first save, closing things out in the ninth.
CSUMB will welcome Cal State East Bay for its final regular season series on the year. The two teams will open the four-game set on Thursday, March 2, with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
