Otters Power Their Way to a 13-6 Victory

CSUMB hits four home runs in series opener

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team slugged four home runs en route to a 13-6 series opening victory over Cal State East Bay Thursday evening at the Otter Sports Complex. After the victory, the Otters improve to 29-17 overall and 24-13 in CCAA play.

CSUMB banged out 14 hits as Jaden Sheppard and Max Farfan collected three hits apiece. JJ Engman, Sergio Solis and Cole Murchison also tallied multi-hit games.

Nate Rohlicek (5-3) earned the win after allowing six runs – four earned on 10 hits while fanning seven in seven innings.

The Otters powered their way to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first two innings, including a six-run second to take a 7-3 advantage.

Nico Hartojo opened the scoring with a solo shot over the wall in left and in the second, Murchison turned on one for a three-run homer down the line in right. Sheppard smacked a two-run single and Chase Lindemann hit a sac-fly to complete the scoring in the second.

CSUMB tacked on a pair in the third as Farfan drilled an RBI single up the middle and then later came in to score on a wild pitch.

Engman joined the power surge as he roped a two-run shot over the wall in left-center in the fifth inning to expand the Otter lead to 11-4. Sheppard followed with a solo home run in the sixth for his team-leading 11th homer of the season.

The two teams will meet for a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
