SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team swept its doubleheader over Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday to claim the series victory. The Otters won game one, 4-3, and then took the nightcap, 9-6. After the day, CSUMB improves to 25-14 overall and 21-10 in conference play.
GAME ONE | CSUMB 4 – CSUSB 3
The Otters opened the day with a 4-3 victory over the Yotes. The three-run fifth proved to be the difference as both teams banged out eight hits.
Evan Stauch collected two hits, including a home run and
KW Quilici drove in a pair of runs to lead the Otter bats.
Mitchell Torres continued his hot play on the mound, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Giovanni Costello earned his first save, allowing one unearned run on one hit in three innings.
GAME TWO | CSUMB 9 – CSUSB 6
After spotting the Yotes three runs in the opening frame, the Otters scored a pair in the bottom half, took the lead with three runs in the third and added four more in the sixth to earn the victory.
Jaden Sheppard drove in four runs and crushed his ninth homer of the season, while
Nico Hartojo banged out three hits and scored three times.
Cole Murchison also tallied three hits and drove in two.
Ryan Platero (6-2) earned the victory, allowing five runs on two hits in 4 1/3 innings while fanning eight.
Antoine Valerio earned his first save, throwing 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief.
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
