SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team opened its series against Cal State San Bernardino with an 8-6 victory on Friday evening. The win propels the Otters to a 23-14 overall record and a 19-10 mark in CCAA play.
A five-run seventh inning proved to be the difference as the two teams were deadlocked in a tight contest for most of the game.
The Otters took the lead for good in that seventh inning, taking advantage of two wild pitches and then a two-run homer off the bat of
Nico Hartojo.
CSUMB had an early 3-1 lead until CSUSB scored a pair in the sixth to even the score at three. After the five-run seventh, the Yotes scored three to pull within striking distance but the Otters closed the door in the final frames to earn the win.
Cole Murchison led the Otter offensive attack with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, driving in a pair and scoring a run.
KW Quilici batted 2-for-2, scoring twice and drew three walks with an RBI.
Daniel Flores (4-1) was credited with the win and Vince Cicolello earned his second save on the season, allowing one hit in 1 1/3 innings.
The doubleheader has been moved up and first pitch of game one will now begin at Noon.
