Otters Snag Pair of Victories on Saturday

CSUMB takes down San Francisco State, 7-6 and 7-2

SAN FRANCISCO – The No. 21-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team collected a pair of victories over host San Francisco State on Saturday. The Otters took down the Gators, 7-6, in the first game and then claimed the nightcap, 7-2.

GAME 1 | CSUMB 7 – SFSU 6

The Otters scored three runs in the final two innings, including the game-winner in the night to start the series with a victory.

The game-winner came off the bat of KW Quilici as he drove in Brady Miguel on a sacrifice fly to left field.

CSUMB out-hit the Gators, 13-10 as leadoff man Chase Lindemann set the table atop the lineup with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate and drove in two. Miguel batted 2-for-5, while Cole Murchison and Nico Hartojo also banged out a pair of hits.

The Otter bullpen was solid in the opener as Daniel Flores and Nico Hartojo combined to pitch three scoreless innings. Flores earned the win, striking out one in two innings and Hartojo was credited with the save, allowing two hits and fanning two.

GAME 2 | CSUMB 7 – SFSU 2

The Otters recorded 14 hits and plated seven runs to secure no less than a series split with the win in the nightcap.

CSUMB allowed just three hits in the evening as Giovanni Costello earned the win after pitching five innings of hitless relief. He fanned six and walked one to close out the ballgame. Aidan Lee allowed three hits, two runs – one earned and struck out four in the first four innings.

The reigning National Hitter of the Week, JJ Engman, batted 3-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in one, while Sergio Solis also batted 3-for-5 and drove in a pair.

Jaden Sheppard and KW Quilici added two hits apiece as Sheppard tallied two RBI and scored a run.

The two teams will close out the series on Sunday. First pitch of game on is scheduled for 11 a.m.
